Neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) is a type I transmembrane protein that acts as a co-receptor for class III semaphorins and several growth factors such as TGFβ1, PLGF, and HGF). As a semaphorin receptor, NRP1 guides the growth of axons during the development of the nervous system. It also participates in other biological processes such as angiogenesis, growth of tumors, cell survival, invasion, and migration. NRP1 is expressed on several immune cells such as T cells, dendritic cells, macrophages, B cells, and mast cells. NRP-1 expression is elevated in multiple cancers such as prostate, lung, colon, breast, and brain. Recently it was demonstrated that NRP-1 acts as a host protein to allow entry of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. NRP1 directly binds to a C-terminal sequence in the Spike S1 domain and facilitates entry of the virus under in vitro conditions. Due to the expression in a wide variety of tissues and its role in multiple biological processes, NRP1 could serve as a promising target to treat human diseases. BioVision’s NRP-1 (Human) ELISA kit is based on the Sandwich principle to quantitatively measure the concentration of NRP-1 in human serum, plasma, and other biological fluids. Test samples, Standards, and Biotinylated Detection antibody are added to the wells pre-coated with capture antibody and then washed with Wash Buffer. The HRP-Streptavidin is added and any unattached conjugates are washed off using Wash Buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected by the addition of TMB-substrate. Finally, the reaction is terminated with an acidic stop solution. The color developed is directly proportional to the concentration of NRP-1 in the sample or standard.
