Mouse Her2/ErbB2 includes the extracellular domain from the full length protein. Her2 is a tyrosine kinase that is widely expressed in epithelial cells and the synaptic sites of muscle fibers. It forms heterodimer with EGFR (ErbB1), ERBB3 and ERBB4 to form high affinity signaling complexes. Her2 has been found to be over-expressed in a large number of breast carcinomas. Approximately 30% of breast cancers have amplifications of the HER2 gene or overexpression of its protein product. Her2 also plays roles in development, communication at the neuromuscular junction and regulation of cell growth and differentiation.
