Glycerol is a central component of most lipids. It acts as a backbone for triglycerides and phospholipids, which play an important role in metabolism and cell membrane structure. Due to its low toxicity, glycerol is widely used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries. Biovision’s Free Glycerol Assay kit II is suitable for measuring free glycerol levels in samples that contain reducing substances, which may interfere with oxidase-based assays. In this assay, Glycerol in the presence of Glycerol Enzyme Mix is converted to an intermediate, which reduces a colorless Probe to a colored product with strong absorbance at 450 nm. Free Glycerol Assay Kit II is simple, rapid and high-throughput adaptable. This assay kit can detect less than 20 M of free Glycerol in various biological samples.

What is the difference between K630 and this kit?
The advantage of K634 is that It can be used with samples containing reducing substances. This kit uses absorbance as the method of measurement where as K630 can be measured both by absorbance as well as fluorescence. This kit can detect less than 20 µM of free Glycerol in various samples.
Can acidic medium be used in this kit or K630? What is the pH of the buffers in kits K630 and K634?
The pH of the buffers in both kits K630 and K634 is alkaline. The exact pH is considered proprietary information. Small volumes of media samples can beused for the assay. However adding large volumes of media which can acidify the pH of the mix in the well is not recommended.
Can serum samples be directly used with this kit?
Serum samples can be loaded unto a 10kda spin column for deproteinzation. Use the eluate for your subsequent assays. Appropriate dilutions of the sample must be tested in order ensure the readings will fall within the linear range of the standard curve.
Can this kit be used with bacterial/yeast media samples?
Yes, this kit should work with bacteria/yeast culture media. We recommend testing with different volumes of the medium to ensure readings are within the std. curve range.
Are trial sizes of this kit available?
Unfortunately, we do not have trial sizes of this kit available. However, for customers based in the US or Canada, a 10% off list price introductory discount can be offered on the list price. For all other customers based out of this area our regional BioVision distributor should be contacted.
What is the shelf life of this kit?
This kit is good for 12 months from the date of shipment in the unopened form when stored at the appropriate temperature and appropriate conditions. After opening and reconstitution, some of the components in this kit are good for 2 months at -20°C. Please refer to the datasheet for storage information and shelf life of each of the components.
Can individual components of this kit be purchased separately?
Yes, any of the kit's components can be purchased separately without having to buy the whole kit. Please refer to the component Cat #s mentioned on the datasheet for ordering.
Is it essential to make a standard curve for every expt, or is one curve/kit enough?
Yes, it is strongly recommended to do the standards every time you do the expt. There is always a chance that something was done differently that day and we do not want any conditions to differ between standards and samples.
