FGF22 also known as Fibroblast growth factor 22 belongs to the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family, which are glycosaminoglycan binding proteins which possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities. These are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. It plays an important role in the regulation of embryonic development, cell proliferation, and cell differentiation. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities. FGF22 plays a role in the fasting response, glucose homeostasis, lipolysis and lipogenesis and can stimulate cell proliferation (in vitro). FGF22 is identified as a key regulator of circuit remodeling in the injured spinal cord. FGF22 as a synaptogenic mediator in the adult nervous system and a crucial regulator of synapse formation and maturation during post-injury remodeling in the spinal cord. FGF22 restores hearing loss through maintaining ribbon synapse number, likely via inhibition of MEF2D. Activating FGF22 might provide the conceptual basis for the therapeutic strategies. BioVision’s FGF22 (Human) ELISA Kit is used for the quantitative detection of FGF22 in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological fluids. It is based on the principle of sandwich ELISA. The capture antibody is pre-coated on 96-well plates. The standards, test samples and biotin conjugated detection antibody are added to the wells subsequently, and washed with wash buffer. HRP-Streptavidin is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with wash buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected using TMB-substrate. Finally, an acidic stop solution terminates the enzymatic reaction. The color developed is directly proportional to the amount of FGF22 in the sample.
