Job Description:

The successful candidate will perform preparative scale and large scale protein purification from E. coli, insect and mammalian cells. (S)he will also perform protein and enzyme-based analyses including electrophoresis and other protein purity and activity assays; analyze data, interpret results, and perform other protein purification related tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    ● Carry out routine protein purification and analysis.
    ● Manufacture proteins according to established SOPs.
    ● Determine material balances, protein purity and yield.
    ● Perform assays for determination of specific enzyme activity according to established SOPs.
    ● Formulate proteins according to established SOPs.
    ● Troubleshoot existing SOPs and improve where necessary.


    ● Must have a degree in biochemistry, protein chemistry, molecular biology or related field.
    ● Must have a minimum 5 years hands-on experience in protein isolation and purification.
    ● Must have expertise in protein chromatography, including (not limited to) IMAC, IEC, HIC, SEC.
    ● Experienced in cell culture and recombinant protein expression in various heterologous hosts such as E. coli, insect and mammalian cells.
    ● Must be familiar with a variety of laboratory equipment used in various stages of purification (French Pressure Cell; large scale continuous centrifuge; lyophilizer, etc.)

Preferred traits:

    ● Expertise in protein refolding from inclusion bodies is strongly desired.
    ● Knowledge of cell-based and other bioactivity assays desirable.
    ● Out-of-the-box / independent thinker / problem solver.
    ● Flexible, strong work ethic, efficient, team player.
