Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells and thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. Expression of this particular cadherin in osteoblastic cell lines, and its upregulation during differentiation, suggests a specific function in bone development and maintenance. The mammalian Cadherin-11 homologues are termed calsyntenin. Cadherin-11 plays an important role in the development of tumors, especially in the processes of tumor invasion and metastasis. Cadherin-11 is overexpressed in 15% of breast cancers and seems essential to tumor progression in some other cancer types. Cadherin-11 acts as a useful as a prognostic marker of disease progression and survival in osteosarcoma. Cadherin-11 also acts as a predictable marker for the occurrence of PTX resistance in Gastric Cancer patients with peritoneal metastasis. BioVision’s Cadherin-11 (Human) ELISA Kit is used for the quantitative detection of Cadherin-11 in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological fluids. It is based on the principle of sandwich ELISA. The capture antibody is pre-coated on 96-well plates. The standards, test samples and biotin conjugated detection antibody are added to the wells subsequently, and washed with wash buffer. HRP-Streptavidin is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with wash buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected using TMB-substrate. Finally, an acidic stop solution terminates the enzymatic reaction. The color developed is directly proportional to the amount of Cadherin-11 in the sample
