Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) plays a very important role in many biological processes. It is a potent anti-oxidant, an anti-inflammatory, anti-viral agent, and an immune stimulant. Therefore, monitoring the intake and metabolism of Ascorbic Acid is crucial for human health. BioVision offers two convenient Ascorbic Acid Assay Kits for rapid and sensitive measurement of ascorbic acid in various biological samples. In the K661-100 assay kit, ascorbate oxidase specifically oxidizes ascorbic acid to produce a product that interacts with the Ascorbic acid probe to generate color and fluorescence, which can be detected by either colorimetric (O.D. = 570 nm) or fluorometric (Ex/Em = 535/587 nm) methods. The detection range is 0.01-10 nmol of ascorbic acid in various samples. The kit is suitable for samples containing low amount of proteins, such as growth medium, food, and urine samples, etc.
The new K671-100 Assay Kit (FRASC Assay) is suitable for a variety samples including samples containing both low and high amount of proteins such as serum and other body fluids, tissue and cell extracts, growth media and food products. In this assay, Fe+3 is reduced to Fe+2 by any antioxidants present. The ferrous iron is chelated with a colorimetric probe to produce a product which can be monitored between 570 and 615 nm. Addition of ascorbate oxidase to parallel samples removes any ascorbate present leaving a background value which is subtracted from the total to give ascorbate content. The detection range is 0.2 to 10 nmol of ascorbic acid in various samples.
