Adenosine 3’,5’-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic AMP, cAMP) is one of the most important “second messengers” involved as a modulator of physiological processes, such as regulating neuronal, glandular, cardiovascular, immune mechanism, nervous system, cell growth and differentiation. A number of hormones (e.g., ACTH, TSH, LH) are known to activate cAMP through the action of the enzyme adenylate cyclase which converts ATP to cAMP. Guanosine 3,5-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic GMP, cGMP) has been shown to be present at levels typically 10-100 fold lower than cAMP in most tissues and is formed by the action of the enzyme guanylate cyclase on GTP. Some hormones (e.g., acetylcholine, insulin, and oxytocin) and chemicals (e.g., serotonin and histamine) cause an increase in cGMP levels. BioVision’s cAMP and cGMP Assay Kits provide recombinant Protein G coated plate and high affinity anti-cAMP (or Anti-cGMP) antibody as well as other necessary reagents for an easy and sensitive quantification of cAMP or cGMP levels. Assay can be performed directly in a 96-well plate and results can be analyzed in a microtiter plate reader at 650 nm. The entire procedure can be done in ~3 hours.
