Programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) is also known as cluster of differentiation (CD274) or B7 homolog 1 (B7-H1). It has been identified as the ligand for PD1/PDCD1 (Cat. No. 7498) and has been demonstrated to play a role in the regulation of immune responses and peripheral tolerance. PD-L1 is highly expressed in the heart, skeletal muscle, placenta, lung and weakly expressed in the thymus, spleen, kidney and liver. Through binding to PD1 on activated T-cells and B-cells, PD-L1 may inhibit ongoing T-cell responses by inducing apoptosis and arresting cell-cycle progression, which makes it a promising therapeutic target for human autoimmune disease and malignant cancers. In tumor cells, PD-L1 is considered to be prognostic in many types of human malignancies, including colon cancer and renal cell carcinoma.
